Two of our yurts battled Hurricane Irene today and won with flying colors. Tropical storm force winds blew and 10+ inches of rain fell over the past 24 hours yet all the yurts remain standing and dry, not a single issue! It just goes to show that yurts are one of the best types buildings in the world for dealing with winds. I would have no problem with one of our yurts withstanding a moderate hurricane if properly secured to the ground. However, use common sense in any building during a hurricane and if you are in the path of a category 3-5 monster and in danger of flooding, just get out and take a vacation somewhere else!
